Cashmere v Halswell (23 July 2005).
Cashmere 1 Halswell 2 (Half time 0-1)
Cashmere
kept up its consistent form going down by 1 goal for the sixth time this
season. With 3 key midfield players missing from the previous weeks
2/0 win over Mid Canterbury, the positional changes caused was always going to
make for a close encounter. 20 minutes in saw Halswell capitalise on a goal
mouth scramble after
Cashmere
had dominated most of the play, taking the 1/0 score to half time. The
major turning point of the game came 5 minutes in to the
second half when a
Cashmere
player was taken down with only 1 player to beat. While reaching in to his
pocket the ref was confronted by a
Cashmere
player resulting in a red card to him after already receiving 2 warnings 4
slander. Halswell took there chance when a 50/50 clash with there striker
and Cashmeres keeper saw the ball in the back of the net to go up 2/0. With 10
minutes to go Mike Dowd scored without realising it in more ways than one, but
with the play breaking down in the final third to often
Cashmere
never really threatened. Strong performances came from Nik in the backs, Steve
up front, Jason in the halves ran all day. Captain Mike Wallace had his best
performance of the season playing against his old club, but after 20 minutes of
each half the adrenalin faded, the heat took over, and the more younger, average
age of Halswell-35yrs old took away the dominance Mike temporarily had. Phil
Wyatt had one of his better performances of the season with a very well
presented speech maturely spoken, when all he was trying to say was Halswell you
guys suck but somehow we suck more!!
Cashmere
hope to spoil Burnsides season $1.20 at the TAB to take out the competition but
they will have to get past the experience and pace of
Cashmere
first.
Cashmere v Nomads (26 June 2005).
Cashmere 3 Nomads 0 (Half time 2-0)
Cashmere's season is back on track with a convincing victory at Somerfield
Stadium. New recruit Paul playing at right half provided a solid platform to the
experienced striking duo of Craig Whinham (Wizz) and Simon Williams (Pom). After
hitting the post 3 times in the first 15minutes, Wizz got Cashmere on the
scorecard with two quick goals. The 2nd being quite spectacular coming from a 30
metre volley on the angle and in to the wind. Captain Mike Wallace showed he
still has wheels to burn at the age of 38 blistering around 6 players (4
Cashmere & 2 Nomads) before being taken down in the box, providing 3 'rolley
polleys' before the ref pointed to the spot. Mike rightfully slotted the ball in
to the top right-hand corner. With a clean sheet, a huge crowd, and some
spectacular goals it was a successful day for the Wanderers.
Cashmere
v
North Canterbury
(19th June 2005).
Cashmere
were absolutely robbed of a win again, the story of their season really. The
result leaves the Wanderers wondering what went wrong (all w,s). With a defense
that must now be wondering what they have 2 do 2 keep a clean
sheet as this hasn't happened all year, and a attack that surely must look at
themselves and ask why can't we score these 1 or 2 opportunities they get every
game.
The answer is clear really. Score more concede less and soccer will be the
winner on the day. I am proud 2 mention Mike Wallace has decided to pick the
team this week and get that long awaited result. With a new player coming
through the industrious and prestige ranks of the club Paul from the USA is an
exciting addition. Looking to break in2 the triangle Mike will probably give
Paul a start in the triangle midfield push himself out to the left and Jason out
to the right, or just put Mark B out to the right, we wait with
anticipation.
For the record North C 2, Cashmere 0.
ps lets all get behind MIKES team this weekend and cheer the lads on, and turn
the season around 4 MIKES team....
